frequently asked questions
1 dropper = 0.75mL
Each dropper has measurements listed on it, broken into 0.25mL increments, so that you may most scientifically infuse your drink. 0.75-3.75mL (1-5 droppers) of Riskin’s Cocktail Bitters will stand out in any concoction. Remember, you can always add more, but you can never take away.
These infusions are 50% alcohol by volume and have an exceptionally concentrated flavor. To taste, put a drop or two on the back of your hand and lick, or add to a small amount of water. Riskin does not recommend consuming them in quantity.
the serving size is in mL. What does that even mean?
how will the bitters emerge as i am drinking?
Riskin’s Cocktail Bitters generally surface at the back end of the sip. They add a flavorful, bitter, almost tannic quality to one’s drink, rounding out their experience nicely.
Some bitters, like Banshee, also add a fresh salinity that can be found throughout the entire sip, and some like Gator’s Lair and Mountain Yeti add a smooth silkiness.
For bitters to be at their finest, direct contact with the skin of the plant is necessary for the infusion process. For this reason, knowing where the herbs, fruits, and other botanicals are sourced from is extremely important. Anything that is sprayed onto the land may find its way into the bitters, because much like tea, washing the plants ahead of time removes necessary essential oils.
why does it matter if herbicides and pesticides are used?
how are the bitters infused?
All bitters use distilled cane sugar as the base, from J&L Distilling Co. in Boulder, Colorado. Riskin takes it the rest of the way at Salad Ground Kitchens in Boulder, Colorado.
Riskin’s Cocktail Bitters are unfiltered. If you find sediment (Cinna-Minotaur and Gremlins’ Glory are always culprits), Riskin recommends shaking before each use. Particles such as that will add texture and flavor.
Why is there sediment in the bottle?
how do i properly dispose of the bottles and packaging?
The bottles and the glass portion of the droppers are recyclable. The rubber portion is recyclable as well, but is a bit more challenging.
The boxes are all recyclable, as is the shredded stuffing inside the bags, and the stuffings used during shipping and inside the shipping box.
The cloth bags and shredded stuffing inside are compostable.
What is sustainable shipping?
Sustainable shipping is better for the environment by allowing you to return the bottles, canvas bag, and stuffing, to us, rather than throwing them in the recycling/compost/trash. By choosing this option during checkout, you pay a little bit more to help out the environment immeasurably.
Sustainable shipping will be available soon.
